Besides precipitation, other liquid water inputs exist, which are categorized as non-rainfall water (NRW). The relatively small contribution of NRW to the annual water balance led to understudied connection of NRW inputs with the carbon cycle across various ecosystems. Beyond freshwater resources, coastal ecosystems support a large suite of ecosystem services despite only represent a small fraction of the Earth’s surface. They experience periodical saltwater recharge but impacts of it on carbon flux dynamics are still unexplored and much needed. In this presentation, preliminary results will be shown to support that these unconventional water inputs are critical to consider in the realm of ecosystem-atmosphere exchanges.
