Anti-feminism is not a new phenomenon, but a persistent response to movements for gender equality. From the resistance to women’s suffrage in the 19th century to today’s online backlash and political rhetoric, anti-feminist ideologies have adapted and resurfaced in different forms. This talk explores the historical roots of anti-feminism, its contemporary manifestations, and its ongoing impact on society. Particular focus is given to how gender bias and structural gender gaps are shaped—and at times justified—by anti-feminist narratives. By connecting past and present, the lecture sheds light on how opposition to feminism reinforces unequal power structures and influences public discourse, policymaking, and everyday experiences. Finally, the talk offers perspectives on how to respond to anti-feminism through critical engagement, education, and intersectional activism.
